Yes, it's so good that it deserves a separate post. I'm planning to review it over the weekend as I've almost finished the game.
In case the dear reader is ignorant of just what The Witcher is, thanks to the asshattery from Atari's promotional department, it's a game that's as good as PS: Torment, VtM: Bloodlines (with way better combat and continually strong storyline), Gothic 2 and the BG series. First role-playing game as good in four years. Or maybe eight. Brilliant story, fun combat past the intro, great characters, lots of moral dilemmas of shades of gray (finally) and valid choices and consequences.
The Witcher's page, bypassing age check thingy.

I agree that it is very good, but I'm keeping it at standby for the moment because I'm a bit tired of the RPG-genre. Playing Tabula Rasa and having a blast (pun intended)
ReplyDeleteThe Witcher's combat system really is great, the moves are amazing! Storyline, well, I'm not that far in the game, so I suppose it has to grow on me yet (I'm only in the second zone from the first chapter)
The only gripe I have with the game, is the sometimes strange use of coarse language and the fact that sleeping with every woman is a minigame in itself. But I suppose they have to keep the teenage kiddies happy as well.
The storyline is rather hard to judge at the beginning of Chapter 1 - start is very cliché, but then again, Torment's start was as well, besides some extra decoration like mortuary, zombies and floating skull. By the end of Chapter 1 you'll see just what I mean, when your decisions will finally show *some* of the results.
ReplyDeleteThe coarse language is a result of a slightly sloppy translation work from Polish - and the "sex" is avoidable completely if you're not inclined to have any - it's a conscious decision that you either make or not. Furthermore, the violence, the language and the sexual themes grant the game an 18+ age limit, which actually removes the said teenager kiddies from the audience.
